years working in nonprofit consulting and management running community
organizations and programs, in 2004 it occurred to me that there
was something else that I was supposed to be doing -- helping people have
powerful relationships with their homes and work spaces. At
first blush, the two don't have much to do with each other. What does
nesting have to do with making our communities and the larger world a
better place to live? And what made me think that I had the skills
to say anything about it? I believe that this
work -- like all healing and growth work -- is not about
applying answers out of a book or according to
the hottest style, but rather about listening to
what's inside and participating actively and with
intention. Trained as a personal professional coach by The Coaches
Training Institute in the mid-1990's, I have been using the same skills I
use with my clients today for over a decade. In 2006 and 2007 I
became a Certified Feng Shui Consultant through nine
months of study at the
Golden Gate School of Feng Shui, and am currently pursuing
advanced studies through another year-long program at the same
school.
What I have found is that what is deepest in our own hearts usually
resonates with larger patterns in the natural and human world, and even in
the cosmos beyond. When we let go of our notions of individuality
and surrender to the flow of life, we are granted access to power.
To me, this is what feng shui is about -- working with energy on many
different levels so that it flows where we want it to and is still where
we want that. I have taken many
classes in systems theory, group dynamics, deep ecology and spirituality,
and in 1998 I earned an MA in Organizational Development and
Transformation from the California Institute of Integral Studies. In
addition to helping people have great relationships with their
homes, I love working with people in their work
environments. Every time I work with someone
on space utilization in their work environment, the conversation
inevitably grows to include work habits and time
management, from the big-picture down to the nitty-gritty. One of my
favorite things to do is workflow audits, where, among
other things, I shadow a professional for several hours and make very
specific recommendations regarding their work habits and
organizational systems in order to improve productivity and personal
satisfaction. [If you are interested in this service, please contact

I help people pay attention to what's really there, get clear about what's
most important to them, and gain tools they can use to move
through the sometimes turbulent waters of
transformation. Through the process, people become powerful
"owners" of their work, their environments, and their lives. Please see

We
all want more flow in our lives.
And when we don’t want that, we want things to just be still. The
ancient taoist art and science of feng shui offers people the opportunity
to regulate these two movements – flow and stillness – in all
areas of their lives by making changes to their physical
environments. Feng shui has nothing to do with imposing solutions
that don't make sense or demanding that we adopt belief systems that
are foreign to us. It’s about creating relationships between ourselves and
our belongings and surroundings, about balancing the energies between our
environments and ourselves. My
expertise is in classical feng shui, which means that beyond being
able to just give you "cures," I understand the principles behind
common feng shui advice. When we work together, there
are few absolutes; if a particular suggestion doesn't work for you or
your aesthetic, we work together to balance all the factors involved and
find other solutions that will give you what you want.
